[Radiant] Ruby Gems Error

I am trying to migrate a site from radiant 6.2 to 6.6.  I updated the  
gem, and ran:
rake production db:migrate

The server's response was:0
Radiant requires RubyGems >= 0.9.4 (you have 0.9.2). Please `gem  
update --system` and try again.

I of course ran
gem update --system

and then went back to rake, but keep getting the same error.  I've  
tried the oldschool rubygems update style, and the gem update style.   
I am getting no where.  Any ideas?  To make things even more fun, I'm  
on mediatemple's grid server.
