I think you can freeze edge - you'll be able to find the instructions on 
the Radiant CMS documentation site (or just do a search for radiant 
freeze edge).

That said, in response to your earlier question, in my mind, there's a 
difference between comments and a forum.  It could be said that a 
commenting module is essentially a forum with the first comments being a 
blog post or an article or something.  In that sense, one could just use 
a forum.

My sites http://onghu.com/te and http://openutk.org are actually 
engineering community resources and therefore, I'm interested in 
exploring both the avenues that you mention:
(1) Integration of comments
(2) Integration of a forum
...and I'm even keen on seeing if there's a good way to:
1.  Integrate another Rails application (I need to see the plugins that 
are there) and to
2. Use Radiant as a backend to provide content management in a 
role-based access way

Long nights ahead...
